There are plenty of ways to have more fun on tour, but these were the first 10 I could think of that don’t cost a ton. Money does not buy fun, but it sure can help — so I tried to list the cheapest tactics. Thanks for reading!
For musicians looking to integrate sophisticated retail capabilities with their sites, Metablocks is a good option. Through their widgets, you can sell music, accept email addresses, and even integrate Spotify’s Pre-Save campaigns. They’re able to link with hundreds of music retailers, and offer analytics in real-time about who’s clicking, when, and why.
Of course, you don’t need to know whether your listener wears a raincoat or a windbreaker. You just need to know your listener’s musical experiences, and that’s not that hard to figure out! You can base a lot of that off educated guesses if you know both the target audience you’re writing for, and the basic context of the show or film’s fictional world.

When I was 17, I wrote down my DJ goals on a piece of paper. I wanted to play at “Space” or “Pacha” Ibiza. I never got to play Space, but I did become a resident DJ at Pacha for seven years. My advice: If you believe in yourself and are passionate and genuine, you will achieve everything you want.
Saturation and distortion are usually used to add bite and roughness to instrumental tracks to help them stand out in a mix. Klanghelm’s IVGI can give you a full spectrum of colors, ranging from subtle saturation and warmth to dirty, grainy distortion. This is a very musical plugin that reacts dynamically to the instrument on which it’s placed, so it doesn’t create any tonal imbalance. You can also control the frequencies that are being saturated to get the detail necessary to make your instruments sound just the way you want.

In case you haven’t seen this, or tried it yet, Classic FM (the website version) has created one of the most entertaining and informative tiny “time-waster” games on the internet that we’ve found so far. It’s called “Are These Words Composers or Types of Pasta” and it’s 15 questions of mouth-watering musical joy where you have to try to guess which is which. I’ve played this game thrice and somehow never gotten a perfect score.
Four years later, I was on my first-ever DIY tour with the original lineup of band whose name I need not mention — it was a rough, January midwest tour… Cold and unforgiving. We maintained sanity by cancelling two of our Ohio shows and hanging out in Chicago for a week, where Borey Shin (composer and keyboardist extraordinaire) bought a Morricone soundtrack called Giornata Nera Per L’Ariete, and that drove the final nail into the coffin, so to speak. There was a Russian website at the time where you could pirate every Morricone soundtrack for free, so I started doing my homework.
